Microsoft to invest $10 billion in Portuguese AI data hub

During his visit to the Lisbon Web Summit, Brad Smith, Vice-Chair and President of Microsoft, announced a landmark investment to accelerate Portugal’s AI infrastructure: in partnership with Nscale, NVIDIA and Start Campus, Microsoft will deploy 12,600 next-generation NVIDIA GPUs in Sines and invest over $10 billion from early 2026, marking its largest ever project in Portugal and one of the biggest AI compute investments in Europe.

Upwork choses Portugal for its international expansion

California-based unicorn Upwork Inc. announced at the Web Summit that it will open its first international hub in Lisbon. The new office is expected to be fully operational by Q4 2026 and it will play a central role in further advancing Upwork’s AI infrastructure.
Kraft Heinz opens a new tomato processing plant in Portugal

The Kraft Heinz Company, a leading American multinational food group, has announced the opening of a new processing plant in Portugal to strengthen its European tomato supply chain. Developed in partnership with The Conesa Group, a significant European tomato producer, the $17.6 million plant is located in Évora, and is designed to process up to 4,200 tonnes of tomatoes daily.

In Portugal since 2024, Dachser Corporate IT Hub recently inaugurated its new office in the ICON Douro building in Porto — a ~750 m² facility that already houses 67 professionals from eight nationalities. The team is expected to grow to 90 by end-2025 and over 120 by 2026, becoming Dachser’s second-largest digital hub after Kempten, Germany. The Porto team supports software engineering, UI/UX, data analysis, QA, cloud infrastructure and project management.

Portugal has the 5th lowest electricity price in EU
According to Eurostat, Portugal has the 5th lowest electricity price for non-household consumers, among EU countries, in the first half of 2025, well below the EU average.
Portuguese economy growing above the Euro zone
In Q3 2025, Portugal's economy grew 0.8% quarter-on-quarter, the strongest pace since early 2023 (excluding Q4 2024) and the highest growth among Euro Area countries. Year-on-year, GDP rose 2.4%, the 4th in the EU, confirming the economy’s resilience after recent global shocks and reinforcing the Government’s confidence that 2% growth in 2025 is achievable.
