Portugal-based engineering group Quadrante has joined the consortium contracted by TSG Concessionaire to support the development of the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel in São Paulo state, Brazil. Valued at around BRL 6.8 billion (€1.15 billion), the project will be the country’s first immersed tunnel.
The approximately 900-metre tunnel will provide a permanent connection between Santos and Guarujá, improving regional mobility and strengthening access to the Port of Santos, Latin America’s largest port complex. The infrastructure will include road lanes in both directions, a cycleway, pedestrian access and provision for a future light rail link.
Quadrante will act as Owner’s Engineer, providing technical support throughout the project, including design review, construction supervision, interface management, planning, quality control, BIM and project management.
Construction is expected to start in 2027, with completion scheduled for 2030 and commercial operations planned for 2031. The project is expected to benefit more than 720,000 people and create around 9,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction.
