Portuguese technology platform plain X is strengthening its international presence in the broadcasting sector, with its media localisation solution already being used by European broadcasters including DAZN, Deutsche Welle (DW) and WDR.
Developed by Portuguese language technology company Priberam, plain X combines artificial intelligence with human expertise to support the transcription, translation, subtitling and voice-over of audiovisual content. The platform enables media organisations to adapt content for different languages and audiences while streamlining workflows and maintaining editorial control.
The platform’s workflows were developed in association with Deutsche Welle, which produces news in more than 30 languages. plain X is also used by DAZN and WDR, alongside a growing number of media organisations.
plain X will showcase its technology at IBC2026, one of the world’s leading events for the media, entertainment and technology industries, taking place in Amsterdam from 11 to 14 September. The Portuguese company will exhibit in Hall 14, stand 14.B52, offering live demonstrations of its solutions and opportunities to meet its team.
The company will also participate in the Future Tech Stage programme. On 12 September at 17:45, Sebastião Miranda, Head of Development at plain X, will present a session entitled “Live Translation, Accessibility Compliance and Newsroom Workflows for Broadcasters”.
The presentation will demonstrate how plain X can help broadcasters put agency feeds with live translated subtitles on air, support accessibility requirements, process international news and entertainment content, and create subtitled and dubbed content for social media.
The platform supports more than 100 languages and integrates several AI engines, allowing users to select the most suitable technology for different transcription, translation and voice-over tasks. A human-in-the-loop approach allows media professionals to review and edit AI-generated results before publication.
plain X’s growing adoption by European broadcasters highlights the ability of Portuguese technology companies to develop specialised solutions for international markets. Its presence at IBC2026 will provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships with broadcasters, technology providers and potential customers, while showcasing Portuguese expertise in artificial intelligence and language technologies to the global media industry.
IBC2026 is expected to bring together around 1,300 exhibitors and 45,000 attendees from more than 170 countries, providing an international platform for companies operating across the media, entertainment and technology sectors.
