In an interview with Portugalglobal magazine, Castro Almeida, Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, argues that Portugal’s main challenge over the next decade is to strengthen its ability to create value, increase productivity and deliver higher wages. To achieve this, he identifies five strategic priorities: investment, innovation, productivity, internationalisation and administrative simplification.
According to the minister, the goal is not simply to grow more, but to grow better through an economy that is more knowledge-intensive, technology-driven and focused on higher added value. Among the measures highlighted are accelerating digitalisation and the adoption of artificial intelligence, strengthening links between research and business, attracting high-tech investment and reducing bureaucracy.
