Portugal and Greece have joined forces in an artistic project combining music, fashion and cinema to promote ocean protection and sustainable development. The initiative culminated in an event at the Official Residence of Portugal in Athens on 1 October, attended by around 50 guests from the arts, culture, business and public life.
At the heart of the project is a 20-metre dress designed by Greek fashion designer Maria Vytinidou, inspired by traditional Portuguese blue-and-white tiles. Made using recycled polyester materials, the creation involved Portuguese company LEMAR and SEAQUAL INITIATIVE, alongside Greek textile company Liolios Textiles.
The project also featured the Piano Project, with Greek pianist Elena Xydia, and a film directed by Paschalis Mantis, linking coastal landscapes in Cascais and Cabo da Roca, Portugal, with Astypalaia, Greece. The initiative highlights the role of artistic collaboration and the circular economy in raising awareness of plastic pollution and the shared responsibility to protect the oceans.
