APICCAPS will promote Portuguese footwear exports to the United States through the Portuguese Shoes Showcase New York, taking place on 1 and 2 December, during FFANY Market Week. The initiative aims to connect Portuguese companies with American buyers, distributors and retailers, with a focus on developing lasting commercial relationships.
In 2025, Portugal exported 1.8 million pairs of shoes to the US, worth €84 million, according to World Footwear data cited by the association. APICCAPS sees further growth potential in a market where quality, design, sustainability and European manufacturing can help Portuguese brands compete in higher-value segments.
The programme goes beyond a traditional trade fair presence, combining a collective showcase with public relations, specialised media outreach, business-to-business meetings, individual mentoring and business development. Participating companies will receive support to define their US market positioning, identify distribution channels and target suitable buyers.
New York was selected to coincide with FFANY Market Week, when department stores, premium boutiques, retailers and distributors gather to explore new collections and suppliers. APICCAPS aims to prepare meetings in advance and provide follow-up support to help participating companies turn contacts into business opportunities.
The United States imports close to two billion pairs of shoes annually, worth around US$26.9 billion, according to data presented by APICCAPS, making it a significant opportunity for Portugal’s export-oriented footwear industry.
