JPS Cork Group will showcase ROYALE CAP®, a high-density cork capsule, at SIMEI 2026 in Milan, Italy. The solution combines advanced engineering, design versatility and material innovation, expanding the potential applications of cork in the wine and spirits industries.
Developed as part of the HDcap – High Density Sustainable Capsule research and development project, the technology uses a thermo-mechanical densification process to achieve an approximate density of 1,000 kg/m³. This results in a compact, dimensionally precise capsule with high mechanical strength. The technology is protected under patent application EP 4 400 441 A1.
ROYALE CAP® offers a wide range of shapes, textures and decorative patterns, giving brands new opportunities for product differentiation and premium positioning. Its potential applications also extend to other sectors, including food, fragrances and cosmetics.
Sustainability is another key feature of the solution. It uses locally sourced, upcycled cork as an alternative to materials such as wood and fossil-based polymers. According to the project's carbon footprint assessment, oval-shaped capsules achieve a carbon footprint of -838.8 kg CO₂eq per 1,000 units, based on capsules measuring 48 × 28 mm.
The capsule and cork stopper also form an integrated cork-based assembly designed to facilitate joint recycling without prior separation. ROYALE CAP® is coated with 100% water-based inks.
Its presentation at SIMEI 2026 will give wine and spirits producers, brand owners and industry professionals the opportunity to explore the technology's technical features, design potential and environmental performance. JPS Cork Group will also present other solutions from its portfolio at Hall 2, Stand L05, through exhibitor Jorge Pinto de Sá, Lda.
With over a century of expertise, JPS Cork Group is a family-owned business comprising Jorge Pinto de Sá and Sedacor. Founded in 1924, the group develops and manufactures cork-based solutions for a range of industries, including wine, construction, interior design, transport, textiles, footwear and sport.
