Official figures show that more than 54,000 British and Irish citizens were living in Portugal at the end of 2024, underlining the country's continued appeal as a destination for relocation, investment and business.
The data are drawn from AIMA's Migration and Asylum Report 2024, published on 16 October 2025. According to the report, Portugal was home to 48,238 UK citizens and 6,081 Irish citizens, within a total foreign resident population of approximately 1.54 million.
These figures highlight the continued importance of the British and Irish markets for Portuguese businesses operating in sectors such as property, professional services, financial planning, healthcare, education and relocation support.
For Portuguese companies, this sizeable resident community presents valuable opportunities to engage with individuals and families considering relocating to Portugal, as well as investors and business owners seeking to strengthen their commercial ties with the country.
To support this growing market, the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK will host three editions of its Moving to Portugal Show and Seminars during Autumn 2026.
The events will bring together prospective residents, investors and entrepreneurs from the UK and Ireland with Portuguese companies and specialist advisers in areas including property, investment, taxation, legal services, banking, pensions, financial planning, healthcare, education and relocation.
Each event will combine an exhibition with expert-led seminars, giving visitors the opportunity to speak directly with Chamber members and participating organisations. The seminar programme will explore the financial, legal and practical aspects of relocating to, investing in or establishing a business in Portugal.
