Greece’s diplomats, investment and trade promotion officers have been tasked with a raft of fresh initiatives under the new and ambitious 2024 National Strategic Extroversion Plan, building on the country’s continuing efforts to boost its commercial role on the world stage.
The new strategy incorporates 645 specific actions – more than ever before – and targeted initiatives in 51 foreign markets. The new plan was unveiled this month at the 5th meeting of the Enterprise Greece Extroversion Council.
“In 2024, economic diplomacy, led by Enterprise Greece and Export Credit Greece, will continue to play a catalytic role in promoting exports and attracting investment, developing trade networks and contacts, digitizing and simplifying procedures,” writes Kostas Fragogiannis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness. “The ultimate goal is to strengthen the country’s international footprint and become a pillar of stability and development in the Southeastern Mediterranean.”
Since its first iteration in 2021, the strategy has served as a roadmap for enhancing Greece’s economic standing overseas. The current plan articulates, for example, 201 specific initiatives Greece will take in Europe; another 66 in the Western Balkans; 112 in the Middle East and North Africa; as well as dozens more in North and South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania. They include diverse activities ranging from hosting this year’s Our Ocean Conference in Athens, to participating in next year’s Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
