Vestas´s success story in Portugal - The Danish wind turbine manufacturer is making the most of Portuguese engineering talent at its R&D centre in Porto.

Vestas has been present in Portugal for more than 20 years. Today, the company has a strong national footprint with around 1.2 GW in operation and more than 1 GW of Vestas-installed capacity, contributing to over 60 wind farms across the country and islands.

Vestas Technology Centre Porto

Vestas' presence includes the Vestas Technology Centre Porto, one of its three global R&D hubs, employing around 700 engineers who drive innovation across the portfolio.

In 2017, the group decided to expand its R&D efforts and chose Porto to set up a new engineering design centre, responsible for developing core technology for the company’s product portfolio. The Vestas Technology Centre Porto fosters cross-disciplinary and personal development in a project-oriented, international organization that makes a positive impact by changing the world’s energy mix.

One of the reasons why we specifically chose Porto, in Portugal, was due to some of the strong universities. We have a prime partnership with the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) as a traditional Portuguese university that is very, very strong in mechanical engineering.
