Portugal will again participate in one of the world's leading biotechnology industry gatherings, BIO Europe, in Vienna, Austria, from 3 to 5 November 2025. The Portuguese presence will be coordinated by AICEP—Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency, with an institutional stand aimed at showcasing the national biotech ecosystem and attracting international investment.
This initiative is part of Portugal's ongoing strategy to position itself as a global hub for Life Sciences and Biotechnology, promoting the quality of its research centres, universities and companies. In 2024, Portuguese exports in the biotechnology sector reached approximately €4 billion, spanning 183 markets. Portugal currently ranks 4th worldwide in the number of health researchers per million inhabitants, reflecting the country's strong scientific base and growing international relevance.

This initiative highlights the announcement that Portugal will host the BIO Europe Spring 2026 in Lisbon from 23 to 25 March 2026—the first time the event will occur in the country. The Lisbon edition will also mark the 20th anniversary of BIO Europe Spring, celebrating two decades of international collaboration, innovation and strategic partnerships in biotechnology. The event is expected to welcome around 4,000 participants from more than 50 countries, offering a unique platform for Portuguese companies and research centres to present their innovations to investors and global industry leaders.
This major international gathering will be key in accelerating the growth and consolidation of Portugal's biotech and life sciences sector. It represents a unique opportunity to promote the country's capabilities – from developing novel therapies to the sustainable production of biopharmaceuticals and medical technologies.
By hosting BIO Europe Spring 2026, Portugal will further strengthen its position as a dynamic, credible, and competitive hub for science, innovation, and biotechnology investment. The event will be organized locally by Biocant Park, in partnership with CoLab AccelBio and P-BIO, and with the support of AICEP.
