An official source from British fintech confirmed the information and added that Revolut's new office has a capacity for 60 people. It is located on Rua Alexandre Herculano, integrated into a coworking space managed by WeWork.
Despite having a new office, Revolut will maintain its “fully remote” and “flexible” working policy, meaning employees will not be forced to go to the office (in fact, there wouldn’t even be space for everyone). To access the facilities, workers will have to make a reservation in advance, according to the same source.
The decision to establish itself in the center of the Portuguese capital is justified by the growth in the number of employees in this location: “The team is growing immensely and wanted a place to meet”, the director of communications in Portugal and Spain, said Paloma, Casillas Baldrés.
Revolut claims to be committed to investing in Portugal considering it one of the key markets for the growth of digital banking in Europe. An example of this is the intention to offer Portuguese people the possibility of having a national IBAN, starting with “PT50”, as reported by ECO in February 2023, although the promise to do so by the end of last year failed.
In March 2023, ECO also reported that Banco Revolut already has a branch in the country, but it is still inactive. This “neo-bank”, which is one of the main challengers to traditional banking, surpassed the million customer threshold in Portugal in 2022 and, in June 2023, announced that it had more than 30 million customers worldwide.
In 2019, it became known that Revolut would set up shop in Portugal, in an old sardine canning factory in Matosinhos. The unit was opened in March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, and will continue to be Revolut's headquarters in Portugal, capable of receiving around 200 employees at the same time.
