The supplier of minimalist furniture and interior fittings has been working with external designers since being founded in 2017. Production activities are based in Portugal.
Porventura is expanding its collections of designer furniture with the inclusion of a chair from JBNG. Founded in 2019 by Birkan Gülöz and Jonas Nussbaum, the Cologne-based studio specializes in industrial style design. It has developed a stockable chair that can be easily manufactured. “The minimalist design corresponds with our style”, comments Filipe Ventura in an interview.
Ventura himself was a designer at his own company before founding Porventura in 2017 alongside his colleague Miguel Soeiro, himself a a creative designer. Their aim was to offer like-minded designers a home - and take the tedious part of the work off their hands. Porventura organizes production, logistics and marketing, while the designers are free to focus on their creative strengths. These can be colleagues working in-house, freelancers or even independent studios such as JBNG.
In this way, the company places real value on fresh ideas: Soeiro teaches at the IADE art school and every year invites his students to a competition in which they can add in elements missing from Porventura’s collections with their own designs.
Manufacturing activities are located in Portugal. “We have huge capacities for the production of furniture, glass and ceramics, as well as metal processing, at our disposal here”, Ventura states. Sales are primarily focused on Europe, for example in France, Spain and Switzerland, although the USA, Israel and South Korea play a role in this as well.
According to Ventura, Porventura is already one of the largest companies in the still nascent designer landscape of Portugal today. But the company will not be resting on its laurels, he explains: “We want to become a designer brand”. Those with an interest in minimalist style will be welcomed. “We are open to bringing on board new designers”, he concludes.
