Portuguese handmade ceramics maker Egg Back Home recently launched its first foray into porcelanic stoneware. Blend the elegance of porcelain with the durability of Egg Back Home’s traditional product, stoneware, the new Terra collection is designed to offer the best features of both kinds of ceramics.
Egg Back Home, a handmade ceramics maker based in Lisbon, has introduced its first porcelanic stoneware collection, blending the elegance of porcelain with the durability of its traditional stoneware. The new Terra collection aims to offer the best qualities of both materials.
Egg Back Home – named after the concept of returning to one’s beginning – sells ceramics in both the business-to-business and business-to-customer markets in plates, cups, and other products. Recently, however, they have expanded into hotels, catering, and other parts of the hospitality industry, which demands durable but refined tableware for dining.
This new market is unusual for the company. Skilled artisans create each Egg Back Home piece. The color of soil inspired the natural, earthy tones of the Terra collection, for instance. A slightly reactive glaze in the collection also creates organic color variations. This process ensures that every Terra piece is unique. No two pieces are identical.
This approach provides remarkable charm and value for presentations in the hospitality and catering industries that want to provide bespoke experiences for their customers, Neiva said. At the same time, she said, the pieces are highly resistant to shocks and impacts and absorb very little water over time, making them hygienic and easy to clean.
