Portuguese startup Nãm Fungi Factory has invested €1 million in a new mushroom factory in Odivelas, increasing its production capacity to 150 tonnes a year, around ten times its previous output.
Developed in partnership with the Nabeiro-Delta Cafés Group, the 2,000-square-metre facility transforms coffee grounds into mushrooms as part of a circular economy model. The project will reuse around 150 tonnes of coffee grounds annually and is expected to create 20 direct jobs.
The factory runs entirely on solar energy for its own consumption and enables around 80% of the water used in the production process to be reused and recirculated.
The company’s strategy now focuses on strengthening its presence in the Portuguese market, particularly in retail, while exploring the possibility of establishing similar facilities in other Portuguese cities.
Part of Delta Ventures, the Nabeiro Group’s startup accelerator and incubator established in 2020, Nãm expects to exceed €1 million in turnover in 2026.
