More and more Portuguese companies in the footwear sector are adopting an international subcontracting strategy for production, particularly for components, in regions such as Asia and Africa.
The plan is to begin managing global manufacturing networks and to focus on the luxury segment, as indicated by a recent study commissioned by APICCAPS, the Portuguese Footwear, Components and Leather Goods Manufacturers' Association, which advises Portugal to position itself in this segment, freeing up companies' production capacity for more complex tasks such as upskilling industry professionals and advanced design.
