Spark, a €35 million investment by Castro Group, has officially opened in Matosinhos setting a new benchmark for innovation, sustainability and quality of life in the Greater Porto area. Designed by Paulo Merlini Architects, this forward-thinking development brings together over 11,500 square metres of flexible office space, 1,800 square metres of retail and service areas, and more than 4,000 square metres of landscaped green and leisure zones.
At the heart of Spark lies a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and technological intelligence. The building aims to achieve the prestigious LEED and WELL sustainability certifications and is the first in Portugal to pursue WiredScore and SmartScore accreditations, recognising excellence in digital connectivity and smart infrastructure. Among its advanced features are real-time monitoring of air quality, water and energy consumption, as well as shared mobility solutions that promote low-carbon transportation.
Users of the complex will also benefit from the Spark App, a digital platform that allows them to manage resources, book spaces, track deliveries, access the event calendar and participate in community activities. Integrated with the CEiiA’s X4Us pilot project, the app also enables the management of shared bicycles and electric vehicles, tracking carbon savings that can be converted into ecological credits and community benefits.
With 35% of its total area dedicated to green and recreational spaces — including urban gardens, sports areas and art installations such as Bordalo II’s iconic giraffe — Spark offers a new model for work-life integration. The development also provides 350 parking spaces with electric chargers, 56 bicycle stands, and excellent access to public transport links, reinforcing its vision for sustainable urban mobility.
