Building materials wholesaler OLI and Greenvolt Comunidades, which is part of the Greenvolt Group, are establishing an energy community. Both companies are based in Aveiro in northern Portugal. Their goal is to cover the energy consumption of the industrial complex in Aveiro with surplus photovoltaic energy. In doing so, OLI hopes to save 25 per cent of its energy costs by 2028, according to a statement. The company already achieved 21 per cent energy self-sufficiency in 2024.
“Establishing this energy community is an important step toward implementing environmental and sustainability practices,” Antonio Ricardo Oliveira, Director of OLI, is quoted as saying. “This project will help us to promote renewable energy generation and share surplus energy with other sites in our industrial complex. By 2030, we will be able to generate 50 per cent of our electricity from renewable sources.”
