The May 2025 issue of Portugalglobal Magazine is dedicated to Portugal's participation in Expo 2025 Osaka. When it opened its doors on 13 April, the Expo began an ambitious journey for the 158 countries present: to shape the societies of the future for our lives. This is the theme of the exhibition that Japan has set up on an artificial island in Osaka Bay, built especially for this gathering of nations, which will run until 13 October. Portugal has brought the sea, its culture and its gastronomy. And it will bring its businesses and economy to strengthen ties with Japan and the world.
The publication includes interviews with Joana Gomes Cardoso, Portugal's General Commissioner for Expo 2025 Osaka, and Tiago Pitta e Cunha, President of the Oceano Azul Foundation, as well as an article by Carlos Abade, President of Turismo de Portugal.
Among the companies featured in the magazine are Cutipol, Kagome Foods Portugal, Friopesca, Fujitsu, NEC and NTT Data.
The issue also analyses the Japanese market, one of the main non-EU destinations for Portuguese exports, which is set to double between 2015 and 2024, from €145 million to €292 million. Japan is also a major investor in Portugal today. The article by Miguel Malheiro Garcia, AICEP delegate in Tokyo, highlights the importance of trust and in-depth knowledge of the local decision-making process for those wishing to enter a demanding but strategic market.
