The March 2025 issue of Portugalglobal magazine focuses on the fruit, vegetables and flowers sector. It is a dynamic sector that has managed to combine tradition and innovation in order to remain competitive in the global market. This is one of the main missions of the several hundred Portuguese companies in the sector. The result is reflected in the figures: the sector's exports increased by 7.5 per cent over the previous year, reaching 2.5 billion euros. Last year, Portugal exported more than 1.8 million tonnes of fruit, vegetables and flowers, an increase of 2.4% on the previous year.
Gonçalo Santos Andrade, president of Portugal Fresh, points out that the internationalisation of Portuguese fruit, vegetable and flower companies has been steadily increasing and that the agri-food sector is one of the most reliable drivers of the national economy.
In this issue, we highlight some of the companies in the sector: Campo Sol, Frusoal, Kiwi Greensun, Sugal, Viplant and Viveiros Monterosa.
In the market we're analysing, we look at a natural ally for exporting companies: Galicia. There is a border, but above all there is proximity, a Galicia/Northern Portugal axis characterised by a close relationship that extends from geography to culture and, of course, the economy.
