The company, headquartered in Taiwan, already operates factories in Vietnam and Cambodia. In Estarreja, the estimated annual production is 200,000 pairs of sports shoes, with plans to triple this figure by 2027.
On March 7th, the sports footwear multinational SGP – Sports Gear inaugurated its factory in Portugal, with an investment of 15.3 million euros, covering the acquisition of land, the construction of facilities, and the purchase of industrial equipment.
The inauguration of the factory, located in the Estarreja Eco Business Park, takes place five years after the local authorities approved the sale of the land by Fernando Ferro & Irmão to SGP for the construction of the project. As a result, the Portuguese subsidiary of the Asian group has become a neighbor of the metalworking company.
Thus, SGP considers that "the relationship" with Fernando Ferro & Irmão was "crucial for the creation of the new factory in Portugal."
"With Mr. Fernando Ferro's experience in the footwear industry, SGP aims to establish a reference center for sports footwear production," the Asian group stated in a press release.
"The new facility represents confidence in the Portuguese market and promises to create job opportunities, contribute to the local economy, and promote sustainable growth in the industry," says SGP, which is headquartered in Taiwan and operates factories in Vietnam and Cambodia.
For the first year, production is estimated at 200,000 pairs, "with the expectation of increasing to 600,000 pairs by 2027."
The factory starts with a workforce of 20 people, "with plans to double this number by the end of the first half of this year."
