Founded in 2018 to support BMW in developing innovative software for its vehicles and digital ecosystem, Critical TechWorks is a joint venture between Critical Software and BMW Group that delivers cutting-edge engineering for the automotive sector. By combining Critical’s expertise with BMW’s vision and resources, the company now employs more than 3,000 people and reached a turnover of 229 million euros in 2024.
BMW Group needed to drive its digital transformation, and Critical Software had the expertise to make it happen. From that collaboration, Critical TechWorks was born in 2018. This marked the beginning of a successful partnership that now runs on roads worldwide.
"I remember that the automotive sector was going through a period of great dynamism and technological development, with many innovations being introduced to the market, from vehicle electrification to autonomous driving", says Paulo Guedes, Chief Financial Officer of Critical TechWorks (CTW). "Since the BMW Group is known for its innovation and development of high-tech products, CTW realised that it needed to be more than just highly skilled in a specific technology; it had to be relevant and expand its presence within the BMW Group". The mission was ambitious, but it was accomplished. "I think we achieved that during a period of significant transformation in the global industry."
