The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy of Chile, Diego Pardow Lorenzo. The park is made up of 14 wind turbines, it will contribute 83 MW to the National Electrical System, with an annual generation capacity that is equivalent to the consumption of 95 thousand homes and will avoid the emission of 140 thousand tons of CO2 each year.
With a total investment of US$120 million, it generated more than 350 direct jobs during its construction phase, promoting the local economy.
João Marques da Cruz, CEO of EDP South America, highlighted the importance of this project, pointing out that “this inauguration represents a crucial step in our growth strategy in South America. Chile is a key market for us due to its commitment to clean energy and its growth potential in the renewable sector. Punta de Talca is the beginning of what we hope will be a fruitful relationship with Chile, reinforcing our position in the global market and commitments to the economic development of local communities.”
The company arrived in Chile in 2021 and currently manages a project portfolio totaling approximately 1,000 MW, covering wind, solar, and energy storage developments. In 2023, a tender for public land was awarded that allows the development of more than 300MWp in renewable energy projects in the commune of Taltal.
Likewise, in 2023, the EDP in Chile announced the development of three wind energy projects in the regions of Ñuble and Los Ríos together with a local developer. These parks total more than 450MW, and will generate more than 1,300GWh of clean energy per year, capable of supplying nearly 650,000 homes annually. These projects are scheduled to come into operation between 2027 and 2030.
