Siemens' international IT competence centre in Portugal is celebrating 10 years of innovation, exports and job creation. The outlook for the future is positive, with the expansion of the Porto team and the strengthening of several cutting-edge technology areas.
Launched in 2014 with just 40 staff, the centre has grown exponentially and now boasts over 1,400 highly skilled specialists, approximately 30 of whom have been involved since the project’s inception. By the end of the fiscal year (September 2024), the Lisbon Tech Hub aims to incorporate an additional 200 professionals, significantly contributing to Siemens' goal of employing 4,000 staff in Portugal by 2025—the year Siemens celebrates 120 years of presence in the country.
Currently, Siemens Portugal has over 250 job openings, about 40% of which are for this centre of expertise. This underscores Siemens’ longstanding commitment to high-quality job creation in Portugal, averaging 300 new hires annually in recent years.
In addition to team growth, the Lisbon Tech Hub has also expanded geographically. The tech hub now includes a team in Porto, focused on developing IT solutions for the Smart Infrastructure business sector. Considering future growth prospects, there are plans for the Porto team to further expand and collaborate with areas such as Digital Industries, Internet of Things & Service Platforms, and Artificial Intelligence & Data Analysis.
With more than 100 interns in its teams, the Lisbon Tech Hub has been essential in developing future technological talent through training academies and internship programs focused on cybersecurity and SAP, among others. These initiatives reflect a constant commitment to engaging and attracting young talent to various teams within the centre, with the majority being integrated into the company.
By working closely with various business areas such as industry, infrastructure, and mobility, to offer the most innovative solutions to their clients, the Lisbon Tech Hub has significantly helped position Siemens Portugal as a company that develops purposeful technology, applied in innovative projects with key local clients, which are subsequently exported worldwide.
Siemens also hosts several global competence centres in Portugal in the fields of energy, industry, infrastructure, information technology, and shared services (financial, human resources, procurement, real estate, among others), exporting solutions and services to all five continents, including those developed by the Lisbon Tech Hub.
