SGP - Sports Gear to open footwear factory in Portugal

Taiwan-based SGP - Sports Gear inaugurated its new factory in Portugal in early March, marking a €15.3 million investment at the Eco Business Park in Estarreja, Aveiro. SGP – Sports Gear is set to produce 200,000 pairs of sports footwear in its first year of operation, with plans to increase this number to 600,000 pairs by 2027. The new factory will produce sports footwear for several brands.

The company recognizes Portugal’s reputation as a European hub for qualified pharmacovigilance professionals and plans to tap into this skilled talent pool as part of its growth strategy. Delta PV aims to further strengthen its presence not only in Portugal and the EU but also in Portuguese-speaking markets.

Volkswagen to start electric production in Portugal

German car manufacturer Volkswagen has announced that it will build its ID.Every1 electric car, which will be launched in Europe in 2027 at its plant in Palmela, Portugal.
The Palmela plant is Volkswagen’s only production facility in Portugal and one of its largest, representing the largest foreign investment in Portugal.
Isofom to open polyethylene foam extrusion unit in Portugal

The Italian company Isofom is planning to open a polyethylene foam extrusion plant in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira. The project is expected to create 100 new jobs and will focus on supplying markets in Southern Europe and North Africa.

Foreign Direct Investment in Portugal hits record high

Foreign Direct Investment in Portugal reached a record high in 2024, totalling 13.2 billion euros, an increase of 19% compared to 2023. The top direct investors are mainly European, with Spain, Luxembourg and the Netherlands being the three largest contributors. Lisbon is the main recipient of foreign investment with 53% of the total FDI stock, followed by the North region with 17.3% and the Algarve with 9.7%.
