CALB to build a Zero-Carbon battery Gigafactory in Portugal

The Battery manufacturer CALB, headquartered in China, is planning to invest 2 billion euros in Sines, 1h30 min south of Lisbon, to build a lithium battery manufacturing plant aimed at supplying high-performance energy storage products to the European electric vehicle industry. The Gigafactory is set to complete initial deliveries in 2027.
The proximity to the Sines port, ensuring connectivity to continental markets, and support from Portuguese authorities under Portugal's green energy transition strategy, were some of the reasons to choose Portugal for this project.

The Spanish data centre engineering and design firm Quark, now owned by Sener Group, announced the opening of a new subsidiary in Portugal, with the aim to reinforce its international expansion plan. Norwegian company CTS and American firm Eaton have announced an investment in Portugal to establish a new EPOD production unit in Viana do Castelo for the data centre industry. CTS Group also opened its European headquarters in Lisbon and will be responsible for engineering and construction areas.

EML, S.A., a Marubeni company, has officially opened its new office in Lisbon. Energy Means Life marks Marubeni's renewed commitment to Portugal, following its separation from Engie on their joint venture Trustenergy. The company focuses on electricity generation from renewable sources and natural gas, with EML Renewables and EML Services already managing 9 wind farms across Portugal, totalling 235.4 MW. The company has recently publicly shared the intention to invest over €100 million in new investments in Portugal.
