High-Level EU-Africa Green Investment Forum: Africa’s green future: new investment pathways towards sustainable inclusive development, streaming from Lisbon on Friday 23 April.

It is well established that climate change presents the most significant challenge to the world’s population. Its effects will be felt everywhere, but most keenly in developing countries. The African continent is particularly vulnerable, but investment needs remain enormous if we are to help mitigate the effects of climate change and create jobs and opportunities for African women and men to enjoy a prosperous future.

This is why the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Investment Bank would like to invite you to participate in our:

High-Level EU-Africa Green Investment Forum: Africa’s green future: new investment pathways towards sustainable inclusive development, streaming from Lisbon on Friday 23 April.

This high-level online event marks the culmination of more than 25 ’Green Talks’ that have been taking place over a month in African and European capitals. It will bring together leading figures from government, business, international and development financial institutions, and academia. We will get the perspective of both the public and private sectors on sustainable development and green investment.

In the lead up to the next AU-EU Summit, we will share experiences, innovative approaches and opportunities to mobilise private and public capital towards the green transition in Africa, as well as showcase how green and sustainable business models are profitable, create jobs and generate wealth, while contributing to achieving the world’s climate goals.

We will address the role of the European Union and its Member States in curbing climate change across the world, with a focus on Africa. This is particularly timely in context of the post-pandemic recovery. Other topics explored will include how international financial institutions are responding to this challenge through targeted innovative instruments and enhanced outreach, and how private sector models are changing to become greener and more sustainable.

The event is open to representatives from African and European national and local governments, businesses, business associations, commercial banks and development financial institutions, as well as academia, non-governmental organisations and civil society leaders.

We would be delighted if you can join us on 23 April. Please visit our websites, www.eib.org/events and www.2021portugal.eu/en/ to find out more about the programme of the High-Level EU-Africa Green Investment Forum.
