Nordea Asset Management (NAM), a global leader in responsible investment and one of the fastest growing asset managers in Europe, has opened an office in Lisbon. NAM aims to make Lisbon a key international hub for its asset management activities and a reference point and strategic location to serve its clients in southern Europe and Latin America.

Located in the office park in Oeiras, Quinta da Fonte, the office already counts a rich team of around 40 people. While facilitating the growth of NAM in the Portuguese market, the new branch also addresses NAM’s ongoing need to access talent to assist its international expansion. Throughout 2022, the firm intends to recruit staff for a wide range of positions covering operations, technology, marketing, product management and other business support functions.

Christophe Girondel, NAM’s Portugal CEO and Global Head of Distribution at NAM, explains: "we found that Portugal, a member of the European Union, offers many assets such as a large talent pool with a high level of English-speaking skills, thanks to renowned universities, a growing fintech ecosystem and easy access from other key European locations and Latin America. Our ambition is to leverage the hub across the entire support value chain as well as improve our service to local clients. In this sense, this is a long-term strategic move for NAM and we are committed to increasing our local presence".

Laura Donzella, Market Leader Portugal and Regional Head of Iberia, Latin America and Asia, highlights that, "besides its global function, our Lisbon office will allow us to better service our Portuguese clients thanks to our presence in the country. We aim to be part of the local community and ecosystem, and develop solutions in close cooperation with local financial players. Our Portugal sales and client service teams, of course, will work closely with our other hubs in Luxembourg and Copenhagen. However, the geographic proximity of Lisbon will be invaluable to our clients serving the Portuguese and LatAm markets."
