July had more tourists and overnight stays than the same month in 2019. Portugal’s tourist activity again surpassed pre-pandemic numbers last month, according to Statistics Portugal (INE) this Wednesday.
Last month, the tourist accommodation sector registered 3.0 million guests and 8.6 million overnight stays, representing increases of 6.3% and 4.8%, respectively, compared to July 2019.
Overnight stays in hotels and rural and residential tourism spaces also increased compared to 2019, by 4.6% and 35.7%, respectively. Local accommodation establishments were down by 0.8%.
Portuguese tourists were the biggest contributors to the number of guests surpassing the pre-pandemic figures: the domestic market grew by 15.8% and external markets reached the same level as in 2019.
