About 500 European producers presented their new fabric collections at their agents’ stands mainly. The event registered around 6 600 visitors, importers, buyers, designers, MDs of apparel companies, major multi-brand shops etc. This time, because there was snow and the day before the first day of the fair was a holiday, the number of visitors was low. However, the second day, there was many visitors.
The exhibition, JITAC, is quite important for buyers, importers, designers operating in the garment market because it is still difficult to visit the main exhibitions in Europe
The recent textiles market in Japan has been quite difficult on matters like price, delivery, exchange rate, etc. However, European fabrics are really wanted.
Moreover, according to some importers, because of the weather in Japan, they prefer more spring/summer fabrics for garments.
Some Japanese apparel companies mentioned that at this time, their most important issue is production control, production and delivery under the pandemia situation.
Concerning Portuguese fabrics, they were presented at Portuguese companies’ booths (Lemar, Fitecom, Riopele) and at the agents’ booths (Burel Factory, Troficolor, Adarberto, Paulo de Oliveira, Tessimax).
Lemar’s stand received many visitors. Visitors ere interested not only in fabrics but also in colorful bags made with Lemar’s sustainable fabrics.
Some visitors were also interested in Fitecom’s S/S collection and Riopele received a lot of visitors as usual.
Concerning Burel, the agent presented/will do not only fabrics for garments but fabrics to related interior, construction area strongly as well. Troficolor received samples orders from regular clients this time again.
Concerning Adalberto, according to the agent, it was interesting that fabrics selected by visitors were almost same design.
Portuguese producers’ own stands were located at the best site right in front of the entrance.
Some Portuguese exhibitors participated in JITAC as a project “From Portugal” by Associação Selectiva Moda.
In previous years, Portuguese fabrics were selected by buyers, designers. This time, many visitors missed “FROM PORTUGAL“ forum stand and inquired about it.
For over 10 years, Portuguese companies’ small collections have been presented at “FROM PORTUGAL“ forum (2 times per year). Thus, Japanese visitors looked forward to seeing them at the forum and they ordered swatches (hangers) from each company or agents’ stands after they checked the collection and the season trends there.
aicep Tokyo office has supported “FROM PORTUGAL” project before and during JITAC. It was a good complement to “Modtissimo” (*1) for Japanese textile market for over 10 years.
(*1): Associação Selectiva Moda has consistently invited Japanese importers to Modtissimo for over 10 years and Japan was the only Asian market which has always been invited throughout that period.
Unfortunately, after COVID-19, Japanese importers have not been able to visit due to Japanese government’s strong request to avoid foreign traveling. However, we expect that on the coming Modtissimo edition, Japanese buyers will have a chance to go there.
Japanese textile market has not yet recovered like in Europe. Still, Japanese companies will keep wanting to import European fabrics.
Thus, JITAC has become more important for Japanese companies for whom it has become more difficult to visit foreign exhibitions.
The expectation is that at the next JITAC, Portuguese and other European will be present.
